Commissioner's Community Action Fund Allocation for Quarter 2

Local communities and voluntary organisations across Avon and Somerset have received over £80,000 as part of Avon and Somerset Police and Crime Commissioner Sue Mountstevens Community Action Fund (CCAF).

Twenty-five projects across Avon and Somerset were allocated funding for Quarter 2.

The Commissioner’s Community Action Fund of £200,000 was launched in May.  This means there are still two more funding periods from this financial year’s total.

Women's Project

Funding for counselling service for victims of domestic abuse.

Funding to support volunteer counsellors who provide support for victims of rape or sexual assault.

Archies Xtra

Funding for equipment to support this project which works with young people in Langport (aged 12-18), providing mentoring and support and helping to prevent anti-social behaviour (ASB) in the area.

Oldland Youth Club Support Group

Funding to support a number of projects for young people in Oldland, which operates in the Staple Hill area.  The projects aim to empower young people and divert them from ASB.

South Gloucestershire £3,930.00

Lighthouse at Weston

Funding to support this project in Weston-super-Mare which will provide a safe space for those who are vulnerable in the night time economy, working with the resident street pastors.

North Somerset £1,750.00

The Coles Shed

Funding to support the development of a sensory garden by disadvantaged young people aged 16-24 many of whom have suffered abuse, neglect or homelessness.  This will be done for the benefit of the local community, and to provide life skills to the young people involved in the project.

South Gloucestershire Disability Equality Network

Funding to support this group to put on an event to raise the awareness of disablist hate crime and also inform disabled victims how to engage with the criminal justice system, with the overall aim of increasing confidence to report to the police.

Contribution to programme which provides volunteering opportunities for businesses for the benefit of young people; coaching, mentoring and support for young people in disadvantaged areas, with the aim of encouraging aspirations and reducing ASB.

Yatton Youth Club

Small grant to support the club's youth work.

North Somerset £400.00

Bristol and Avon Chinese Women's Group

Funding for drop in surgeries where specialist support is provided for Chinese women who have been victims of domestic violence, ASB, burglary or trafficking.

Sports Active Seagulls Community Trust

Funding for a pilot project on the Bournville Estate, in Weston-super-Mare to engage with young people who are either not in full time education or whose school attendance is low.  The young people will recevie training including football coaching with the aim of increasing school attendance and reducing ASB.

Somerset West Business Against Crime

Funding to this partnership to provide radio infrastructure to a new business crime reduction partnership with the aim of reducing crime and ASB in that shopping locality.

Weston-super-Mare YMCA in partnership with Bridgwater

Funds for a safe drop in to support young people who have experienced domestic abuse both directly and by witnessing abuse.

South Bristol Youth

Funding towards a project where young people look at the problems associated with ASB.  The project will be run by a Youth Board across six schools and the project will conclude with the development of a short film.

Knowle West Health Association

Funding for a pilot 'Charity Challenge' scheme, whereby young people identified by statuatory agencies (due to drug/alcohol misuse, ASB, excluded from school) will be supported to complete their own challenge for charity, with the aim of reducing problematic behaviour.

Time Bank Plus

Funding to work with young people in Twerton on various activities such as bike repair, crafts and dance with the aim of reducing ASB and low level crime.

Bath and North East Somerset £5,000.00


Funding to support the work of Unseen UK in their work to tackle human trafficking through the training of front line professionals to be able to identify the signs that could indicate someone has been trafficked.

The Southville Community Development Association

Funding towards a scheme to train and mentor disengaged young people in radio production with the aim of empowering them and reducing ASB, while producing radio content discussing issues around crime and ASB.

The Minehead Hope Centre Trust

Funding for a new preventative project, working with young people who are affected by or at risk of developing addictions, with the aim of equipping the young people with tools to move on with their life and in doing so prevent crime and ASB.

Funding to support a mobile youth outreach service for the rural area surrounding Wiveliscombe.

Creative Youth Network

Contribution towards the Urban Arts Space project which will engage young people in activities such as street art and music, with the aim of reducing ASB in Kingswood on Friday evenings.

South Gloucestershire £1,500.00

Mentoring Plus

Contribution towards the mentoring scheme for young people at risk of offending, looked after children, care leavers, young offenders, NEETs, those at risk of abuse and those at risk of addiction.  Young people are matched to a mentor who provides regular and reliable support, thus increasing self-esteem , reducing conflict and ASB.

Funding towards Friday evening drop in sessions to engage young people at risk of offending.

The Green House

Funding for Volunteer Associate Counsellor programme to increase the number of counselling hours that can be provided to support victim-survivors of sexual violence.

Integrate Bristol

Funding to produce a film, developed by young people, for primary school aged children to teach them about Violence against Women and Girls, including Female Genital Mutilation (FGM)
