Police in Southmead are on the move

Southmead station
Following the sale of the existing Southmead Police Station, the police enquiry office and local policing team will move to a new home.

On 31st March the existing Southmead Police Station will close to the public. It will be temporarily replaced with a mobile police station, located at Southmead Fire Station, across the road from the existing police station. From Wednesday 5th April, the mobile police station will open Monday to Friday 10am until 6pm.

A permanent home for Southmead Police Station, which will house the police enquiry office and the local policing team is currently being sought. This will be located within Southmead. A potential option for the new Southmead Police Station has been found and talks are progressing.

Chief Superintendent Jon Reilly said: “We are committed to keeping local policing in North Bristol. It is important to us that our local teams are based in their community and we know that this is also important to local residents.

“Although there will be some temporary changes, we will be re-opening a new permanent police station in Southmead, incorporating a public enquiry office and space for our neighbourhood policing team.

“We are in talks about a new permanent location, and as soon as we have assessed the costs and suitability, we will announce its location.”

Police and Crime Commissioner Sue Mounstevens said: “The Constabulary and I have always been clear about our commitment to ensuring a real policing footprint in Southmead and the surrounding communities.  Local people continually bring to my attention the importance of having a visible policing presence in the area.

“This message couldn’t have been clearer than when I attended the Henbury, Brentry and Southmead Neighbourhood Partnership meeting last week and I note local people’s concerns.  I have been assured that the Constabulary are giving their upmost attention to finding a permanent location for a police station in Southmead.

“The permanent location will ensure the neighbourhood team remains in the heart of the community and as soon as there are any developments on Southmead this will be shared.”

From 31st March, the opening hours of police stations across Bristol will be:

  • The Bridewell Police Station (BS1 2AA) 8am to 8pm 7 days a week
  • Patchway Police Station (BS34 6PY) 8am until 8pm 7 days a week

  • Broadbury Road Police Station (BS4 1JT) 8am until 8pm 7 days a week
