The new Outdoor Fitness Equipment on the field behind Barrington Village Hall was officially opened last weekend by District Councillor Derek Yeomans.
There was a great turnout from around 50 villagers who came along to celebrate and to have a go on the new equipment.
The equipment was paid for through community fund-raising and some very generous grants from the Big Lottery Fund, the Avon & Somerset Police Crime Commissioners Fund, Tesco – Bags of Help and South Somerset District Council’s Community Fund.
The equipment was installed at the beginning of September and is aimed at anyone over the age of 11. The 8 pieces of equipment include a Double Skier, a Self-Weighted Rower, a Combo Chest/Pull Down and an Arm & Pedal Bike.
Police & Crime Commissioner Sue Mountstevens has said: “I was delighted to be able to award £2,000 from my Community Action Fund, to Barrington Parish Council to put towards this fantastic new Outdoor Fitness Equipment. It’s a great way for local people to keep active and encourage more sociable behaviour within the community.”
Barrington Parish Council Vice-Chairman Don Bourne said “It’s great to see so many people in the community behind this project - and when people come and use it, its not just about keeping fit, its about being sociable too.”
During October, training sessions have been organised with Fitness Expert Marion Cooper, to introduce people to the equipment and learn how to make the most of them. Further details are on the village website http://www.barringtonvillage.btck.co.uk/
