Acts of heroism, courage and selflessness recognised at PCC Pride Awards

Description
Unsung heroes from across Avon and Somerset were made to shine at the latest 'PCC Pride Awards' as individuals, who often go unnoticed but who make a huge difference to their community, were recognised by Police and Crime Commissioner Sue Mountstevens. The awards took place on Tuesday, 14 August at Police & Fire HQ in Portishead and saw 20 deserving winners and their guests attend the event.

Special constables from across Exmoor and Dulverton were presented with a PCC Pride Award, as part of Police and Crime Commissioner (PCC) Sue Mountstevens' latest Somerset community day on Monday, 13 August. During the day PCC Sue Mountstevens also visited Mind Taunton and West Somerset, Somerset Survivors and Taunton Women's Aid and hosted a public drop-in session in Watchet.

133 arrested during Summer Operation Tonic

As part of our summer Operation Tonic road safety campaign, we arrested 133 people for drink and drug driving in a month-long crackdown. Of those arrested, 74 people have been charged and a further 30 have been released under investigation¹. The highest reading recorded during the campaign was 147ug which is nearly 4x the legal limit.

Nail bar modern slavery case to feature in documentary

Description
A modern slavery case involving a nationwide nail bar trafficking operation will be the focus of a BBC documentary this week. The Prosecutors, due to be televised on BBC Two at 9pm, Thursday 9 August, follows officers including Avon and Somerset's DI Charlotte Tucker and DS Celia White, as they investigate offences which saw young Vietnamese teenagers forced to work without wages in nail bars across the country.

Farm Safety Week is upon us and with the National Farmers Union (NFU) supporting the campaign to get more farmers focused on staying safe, PCC Sue Mountstevens met with local NFU members to discuss rural and wildlife crime. The group came to Police and Fire HQ to find out more about how rural and wildlife crime continues to be tackled by the Constabulary and to put their questions to the PCC.
