Register of Gifts and Hospitality for the PCC and OPCC

This register provides information on gifts or hospitality received and accepted or offered and declined to the Avon and Somerset Police and Crime Commissioner and all staff in the Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner, including the Chief Executive Officer and Chief Finance Officer.

The Gift and Hospitality checklist mnemonic 'GIFT' is used as a reminder for the PCC and staff when declaring any gift or hospitality, as follows:

G enuine - is this offer made for reasons of genuine appreciation for something I have done, within any encouragement from me?

I ndependent - If I accept it, would a reasonable bystander be confident that I could be independent in doing my job?

F ree - Could I always feel free of any obligation to do something in return for the donor?

T ransparent - Would I be comfortable if the gift or hospitality was transparent to the public?

This simple checklist helps to make an informed spontaneous decision when offered a gift or hospitality.

Please note: Any reasonable working meals or tea/coffee/soft drinks refreshments at meetings are excluded from this register.  From time to time the PCC may accept invitations to accompany another at hospitality and similar events to which that person has been invited in their own professional capacity and/or as a director of various companies.  When the PCC accompanies another to such events they are not attending in their capacity as PCC and these will not be declared, unless there is some particular relevance.

The register of gifts and hospitality for the PCC and OPCC from the first PCC term (2012 - April 2016) can be viewed here.
