Giving evidence at the Home Affairs Committee: Tackling Violence Against Women and Girls

This week, I was asked to present evidence to the Home Affairs Committee’s Inquiry into Funding for Tackling Violence Against Women and Girls.

I gave evidence both as the Association for Police and Crime Commissioners (APCC) national Victims’ Lead and in my role as a commissioner of specialist support and prevention services in Avon and Somerset.

This was an opportunity for me to bring the concerns of the residents of Avon and Somerset to the Government, helping to shape policy that will have both national and local impact.

I focused on several key points including the need for long-term investment in specialist support, the importance of being victim-survivor led on domestic abuse housing provision, and the importance of effective prevention initiatives.
