Honouring courageous and dedicated service at police awards ceremony

It was a pleasure to attend the Avon and Somerset Police Force Awards last week, to recognise the dedication of officers, staff, and several members of the public in serving the people of Avon and Somerset.

I was humbled by the life-saving action taken by many of those receiving awards, as well as the commitment shown by others in achieving justice for some of our most vulnerable victims. There were many inspirational stories shared about officers who helped and stood up for people, often when they were experiencing their most difficult moments.

We heard about how the officers involved used their training and experience to make the difference in each of those moments, and through each of the protests and operations they were involved in. We also heard about some exceptional service, from people who were just at the beginning of their careers as officers at the time.

I recognise that policing also often involves quieter moments of courage and acts of kindness that might go unnoticed. I am grateful to those who provide our police service, for the exceptional things they do every day for the people of Avon and Somerset.
