Free Training: Supporting People who have experienced Non‑Fatal Strangulation

Non‑fatal strangulation (NFS) is increasingly being reported to specialist support services, including within consensual sexual contexts, yet many people remain unaware of the level of harm it can cause.

To support professionals across Avon and Somerset to respond to this issue Clare Moody, Police and Crime Commissioner for Avon and Somerset, has funded Somerset and Avon Rape and Sexual Abuse Support (SARSAS) to deliver free, evidence‑led training designed to build confidence in identifying, responding to, and appropriately signposting people who may have experienced NFS.

About the training

The SARSAS one‑hour webinar provides professionals with clear, clinically grounded information on:

  • Understand the types of NFS and the law around it.
  • Explore the risks of NFS and the impact it can have.
  • Learn how to recognise and respond to NFS in a trauma-informed way.
  • Learn how to support, safeguard and signpost people who have experienced NFS.

How to register

The training is free and open to anyone working in a relevant frontline or support role.
