Circles South West AGM
Innovative and successful community contribution to reducing sex offending was the focus of the Circles South West event which Avon and Somerset Police and Crime Commissioner (PCC) Sue Mountstevens was invited as guest speaker on Thursday June 27.
The Circles South West Annual General Meeting welcomed representatives from Avon, Cornwall, Devon, Dorset, Gloucestershire, Somerset and Wiltshire to discuss working together in close partnership with criminal justice agencies to reduce sex offending.
Circles South West offer volunteers dedicated to working for their communities to substantially reduce the risks posed by sex offenders by offering support and encouragement to the core members whilst holding them account for their actions.
Speaking at the event, PCC Sue Mountstevens said: “Circles is a superb example of what it is about volunteering that I find so inspiring. I believe that policing and community safety is far too important to leave to just the Police alone.
“In an era of reducing budgets I am determined to get the most from every penny of the police fund; we need to be smarter with our resources, work together more closely to do more for less and keep our communities safe.
“Services on offer and support we can give will be eternally superior if we work together, building upon the energy and innovation I see every day in communities. The importance of working together is why I have made commitments in my Police and Crime Plan around volunteering.”
At the meeting progress over the last eighteen months was reviewed and key aspects of vision for the future and working together closely with partners was discussed.
Circles South West is a charity with a Board of Trustees comprising representatives from criminal justice agencies and the wider community working in partnership with Probation Trusts and what was previously Police Authorities across the regions.
Circles South West is currently recruiting volunteers in Avon and Somerset. For further information call Jo on 07717 442413 or email firstname.lastname@example.org
