North Somerset PCC Police Public Forum
Weston-super-Mare Town Hall saw over 80 people brave the wet and windy weather to attend North Somerset’s first public forum hosted by Police and Crime Commissioner (PCC) Sue Mountstevens.
The forum, which took place on Tuesday January 28, included a presentation on local policing followed by a question and answer session with the PCC, Chief Constable Nick Gargan and local area commander Chief Superintendent Nikki Watson.
Opportunities to get involved with local policing, cybercrime, local crime hotspots, the badger cull and communications strategies to interact with young people were amongst some of the topics that were raised by residents.
Avon and Somerset Police and Crime Commissioner Sue Mountstevens said: “Thank you to everyone that took time out of their evening to attend the forum. I was delighted to see so many residents. Everyone asked interesting and varied questions and I was glad that we were able to answer them.
“I was pleased to see several students from Weston College at the meeting and their questions brought a different dynamic to the session. I was also deeply motivated by the level of interest from people to get involved in all aspects of local policing. There’s a real appetite out there for volunteering.”
A video of the meeting and notes from the question and answer session will shortly be online at www.avonandsomerset-pcc.gov.uk where you can also view the presentation by Somerset Area Commander Nikki Watson.
The next Public Forum will take place on Tuesday March 25, 2014 at The Beach Hotel, The Avenue, Minehead between 7pm and 9pm.
