PCC and Chief Constable to host public forum in West Somerset

Next Public Forum to be held in Minehead

West Somerset residents will have the opportunity to have their say on local policing in Avon and Somerset on Tuesday, March 25, 2014 at a public forum to be held at The Beach Hotel in Minehead.

This will be the sixth stop on a tour of Avon and Somerset for the forums, where residents are given the chance to put their questions to Police and Crime Commissioner (PCC) Sue Mountstevens and Chief Constable Nick Gargan.

Avon and Somerset Police and Crime Commissioner Sue Mountstevens said: “I have visited West Somerset on several occasions consulting on the Police and Crime Plan and visiting projects and initiatives I have funded through my community action fund.

“However this will be the first public forum that we have hosted in West Somerset and I am keen to hear about policing in the community first-hand from residents.  I would encourage the local people of Minehead and the surrounding areas to come along and put their questions, however big or small, to myself and the Chief.”

The session, which will be between 7pm and 9pm, will also include an overview of policing in West Somerset by Chief Superintendent Nikki Watson and a Q&A session, allowing people to raise local concerns and ask about local policing.

Chief Constable Nick Gargan said: “Avon and Somerset is one of the largest and most diverse areas in the country, ranging from busy conurbations through to most remote rural areas.

“Our next meeting – the sixth we have run as part of our tour of Avon and Somerset will give communities who live and work in the West Somerset area the chance to put questions to us.

“I’m looking forward to hearing from residents who live in this area on how they can help shape policing in West Somerset. I want to hear what they think about the service we provide, what we do well and what we don’t do quite as well, in our efforts to keep people safe and feeling secure,” said the Chief Constable.

The forum will be broadcast live and you can watch it at here
