Avon and Somerset Constabulary opens police officer recruitment

Avon and Somerset Constabulary look to recruit up to 120 new police officers over the next 12 months and are encouraging people from all backgrounds to consider a career in policing.

Recruitment will open at 12 noon on 2 February, with candidates being invited to complete an online registration and eligibility check.  This stage of recruitment will close at 12 noon on 20 February.  The number of candidates who can complete the registration process will not be limited during this time.  Candidates will then progress through an online assessment and complete an application form.

This year, the Constabulary's phasing recruitment in line with resource requirements.  The process will then be re-opended later in the year to enable people who may not be ready or eligible to apply right now to still join at a later date.

Police and Crime Commissioner Sue Mountstevens said: "Policing is a challenging and rewarding job and it is vital that the service reflects the communities it serves.  Opportunities to recruit police officers over the next few years will be few and far between so I hope people wil strongly consider this exciting opportunity now.

"I want all residents to be safe and feel safe and I believe having a diverse workforce is an important part of this.  People relate to people and different people can bring different life experiences to the role of a police officer.  It is only by embracing this diversity that Avon and Somerset can be the best policing service for local people."
