Emergency funding to support the most vulnerable victims during coronavirus crisis

In response to the Government announcement of £76m of extra funding for support services for vulnerable victims (including victims of domestic abuse, sexual violence and modern slavery) Avon and Somerset Police and Crime Commissioner Sue Mountstevens said:

“I welcome this much needed additional funding that will go towards supporting victims of domestic abuse, sexual violence and modern slavery. The funding will ensure that vital support is available for the most vulnerable men, women and children in our communities.

“Lockdown has had a significant impact on victims who are living with perpetrators and who are now even more isolated from loved ones. It has never been more important to me that victims know help is available, whether they report to the police or not and no matter how long ago it happened. I cannot stress enough that support is still out there and you do not need to suffer in silence. Despite these uncertain times, we want victims to come forward, speak out and be heard. You are not alone.

“My team is in regular contact with all of our commissioned services, who worked around the clock when the restrictions were introduced to ensure they could still support local people. The new funding ensures that we can continue working with local partners to ensure all victims can access the help and support they deserve.”
