After several months of gathering public input, the consultation on Police and Crime Commissioner (PCC) Clare Moody’s draft Police and Crime Plan has now come to a close. Residents from across Avon and Somerset have shared their thoughts, ideas, and concerns, helping to shape the future of local policing.

PCC Clare Moody expressed her appreciation:

“We’ve been asking for your thoughts on how we can improve policing in Avon and Somerset, and the response has been outstanding. Your feedback is helping us to understand better what matters most in your communities. I want to thank everyone who took the time to participate – your voice is key to shaping the future of local policing.”

Now that the consultation has concluded, the next step involves looking at how these priorities will be funded. The PCC is seeking further input on the policing precept – the portion of council tax that goes toward local policing.

PCC Clare Moody added:

“As we move forward, I also need to hear from you on how much of your council tax you feel should be allocated to making these priorities a reality. The precept will determine how much we can invest in the action plan that stems from your feedback. Your input is essential as we set the budget for the coming year and continue to build safer communities together.”

The precept consultation will inform how much funding is available to deliver the actions outlined in the Police and Crime Plan, including:

  • Strengthening neighbourhood policing
  • Reducing violent crime, with a focus on male violence against women and girls
  • Preventing crime through partnerships
  • Supporting victims to access timely help
  • Improving policing standards across the area

The Police and Crime Commissioner will review public responses before setting the policing part of your council tax for the 2025/26 financial year, ensuring that the final plan aligns with public expectations and priorities.
