“A Lifeline to Women”: Joining One25’s outreach team supporting women in Bristol

Police and Crime Commissioner Clare Moody joined One25’s outreach team on Saturday night to see first-hand how the charity supports women who are street sex-working in Bristol.
The One25 outreach van goes out five nights a week, offering safety, practical support and a vital connection point to specialist services. On board are trained staff and volunteers providing hot drinks, food, clean clothing, harm reduction supplies, and a chance for women to be heard and supported without judgment.
PCC Clare said:
“It was a privilege to meet some of the women that One25 works with and learn a little more about their lives. One25 builds relationships over time, sometimes over years, creating trust and opening up routes to support women. It’s quiet, determined work that makes a huge difference. I’m proud to be able to help fund it.
“I’m grateful to the One25 team for the care and commitment they bring to this work, it is life-changing for many of the people they work with.”
One25 is one of several specialist organisations funded through the PCC’s recommissioning of services for victims and survivors of sexual violence. The recommissioning, which took place earlier this year, secures long-term support for services across Avon and Somerset and focuses on ensuring that people can get help that is right for them, when they need it.
For some, that support starts with the outreach van. As Sofia, a woman who has used the service, explains:
“One25 is a huge part of my life and has really supported me. When I first came through the doors, I remember being made to feel welcome, and I felt safe. At last, I knew I wasn’t alone. I wouldn’t have my flat without being supported when I was homeless.
“One25 has helped me throughout my addiction and what goes with it. They let me take the time I needed and were there when I was ready to access help around domestic violence with my ex-partner. I can’t explain how it felt to finally open up and to say ‘I’m not ok’.”
Another woman, Norah, shared:
“I’m very grateful for the van. [One25] are wonderful and a lifeline to all women.”
