Your Streets, My Priority: Partnership working delivering results in Bath and Yeovil

This summer, Bath and Yeovil are just two of the areas that took major steps toward creating safer, more welcoming city and town centres. Through the Your Streets, My Priority campaign, police, local authorities, businesses, and community partners joined forces to tackle crime, boost visibility, and strengthen local trust, showing the power of working together.

Bath: a safer, more reassuring city centre

In Bath, the campaign has made a noticeable difference. Nick Bishop, Business Manager and Project Lead for the Safe and Secure Bath Business Crime Reduction Partnership (BCRP), highlighted several key outcomes:

Key highlights:

  • Consistent police visibility reassured the public and deterred crime.
  • Partnership with Bath BID City Marshals helped reduce shop theft and antisocial behaviour.
  • Night-time economy collaboration, including Night Marshals and the Bath Safe Bus team — supported incident de-escalation and safeguarding.
  • Neighbourhood Tasking Team removed repeat offenders, with some receiving custodial sentences or Criminal Behaviour Orders.
  • Hotspot Patrols, backed by 192 hours/month of City Marshal activity, disrupted crime patterns and improved safety.

Nick Bishop said, “Officers deployed from outside Bath would benefit from stronger local knowledge to better target persistent offenders and problem areas.”

Yeovil: stronger partnerships and real results

In Yeovil, the campaign has transformed local collaboration and improved safety in the town centre.

Gareth Williams, Coordinator of the Yeovil Crime Reduction Team (YCRT), praised the initiative for its impact:

Key highlights:

  • Stronger partnership between Yeovil NPT, the Tasking Team, and YCRT.
  • An intelligence-sharing platform and town centre radio network enabled rapid responses and led to multiple arrests of prolific shoplifters.
  • Police community support officers and officers built trusting relationships with businesses through tailored advice and regular engagement.
  • Strategic office location: Basing officers within the YCRT office improved coordination, visibility, and accessibility.

Business engagement  days:

  • Delivered crime prevention advice and promoted initiatives like #ShopKind
  • Encouraged businesses to join local safety networks.
  • Received overwhelmingly positive feedback from local shops.

Gareth Williams said, “Basing officers within the YCRT office has transformed coordination, response times, and public confidence. It is a game-changer.”
