PCC Clare Moody Announces Knife Crime Prevention Investment for Bristol
Police and Crime Commissioner Clare Moody has secured £224,000 of additional funding to support knife crime prevention projects in Bristol. Delivered in partnership with Avon and Somerset Police, Bristol City Council, Bristol BID, and the Bristol Violence Reduction Partnership, this funding will build on proven approaches and respond to local need.
The funding will enable targeted interventions including:
- Improved lighting, CCTV, and physical infrastructure to make public spaces safer.
- Outreach work with young people, including mentoring and workshops to divert them from criminal activity.
- Targeted initiatives with at-risk groups, focusing on prevention before harm happens.
Quote from PCC Clare Moody:
“With this funding, I am supporting projects that reflect what those affected by knife crime have said they want to see: practical, targeted, and evidence-based solutions that make a real difference to preventing knife crime. I will continue to explore all possible steps to tackle knife crime, including working with regional charities and organisations to work toward a community led initiative”
Quote from Avon and Somerset Police (Superintendent Deepak Kenth):
“Serious youth violence remains a concern in Bristol, particularly for communities that have suffered knife-related tragedies in recent years. While the latest figures show knife offences are falling and Bristol continues to be a safe place to live and work, we are determined to target the small minority who choose to carry weapons and harm others.
Knife crime is a complex issue that cannot be solved by policing alone. That’s why the delivery of these new interventions through strong local partnerships is a welcome announcement. They all share a common goal: protecting vulnerable young people, steering them away from violence, and providing better opportunities now and in the future.”
