Winter of Action Launched
Police and Crime Commissioner Clare Moody has announced a Winter of Action to help keep town centres safe during the festive season and darker evenings. Running through December and January 2026, the initiative is part of a national drive to tackle crime and anti-social behaviour, building on the success of the Safer Streets Summer programme.
The Winter of Action reflects the PCC’s priority of strengthening neighbourhood policing and addressing issues that matter most to local people, including anti-social behaviour, retail crime, and night-time economy safety. Local plans include:
- High-visibility patrols in town centres
- Engagement with businesses to reduce retail crime through community partnerships
- Continued emphasis on violence against women and girls, through campaigns such as StreetSafe and Walk and Talk
This work builds on the Neighbourhood Policing Guarantee, which has already seen 70 additional officers, PCSOs, and special constables join local teams across Avon and Somerset, strengthening visible policing in the areas that matter most to communities.
The Winter of Action is part of a national programme to reduce crime and keep communities safe, alongside other initiatives funded by the PCC.
