Welcoming New Voices to Support Independent Scrutiny of Policing
Throughout January, newly appointed volunteers participated in a programme of induction and training sessions for the Independent Scrutiny of Police Powers Panel (ISoPPP), the Independent Scrutiny of Police Complaints Panel (ISPCP), and the Independent Custody Visiting (ICV) Scheme.
The Scheme Managers Becky Maye and Dee Derrick said:
“It has been a busy, engaging and rewarding period as we trained our new cohort of volunteers. We are delighted to welcome them as they prepare to undertake vital scrutiny work and help hold the police to account. Each volunteer brings a valuable range of experience, knowledge and perspectives, which will strengthen our engagement with communities and ensure their voices continue to help shape policing.
We are excited about what 2026 will bring and look forward to working closely with both our volunteers and policing partners to drive continuous improvement across all areas of scrutiny.”
Volunteers play a crucial role in strengthening transparency, building public confidence and ensuring that policing remains fair, ethical and accountable. Their commitment, independence and dedication make a meaningful difference, helping communities feel safer, heard and represented.
