Victim Code of Practice

The Victim Code of Practice outlines the service you can expect from criminal justice agencies if you are the victim of a crime.

The Code of Practice is part of the government’s strategy to ensure the Criminal Justice System (CJS) always puts victims first.

It also summarises the types of support victims and witnesses of crime have the right to receive from police, courts and other criminal justice agencies.

Read the Code of Practice (PDF) defined by the Ministry of Justice and updated April 2021.
