Police and Crime Commissioner Sue Mountstevens
Police and Crime Commissioner (PCC) Sue Mountstevens joined fellow regional Police and Crime Commissioners, Chief Constables, Lord-Lieutenants and distinguished guests at a Commemorative Service to mark the 225th Anniversary of the Birth of Sir Robert Peel.
The National Service of Commemoration, on Sunday 3 February 2013, was held at Tamworth Church followed by the laying of a wreath at the Peel Statue on Market Street, Tamworth.
The 5 February 2013 officially marks the 225th Anniversary of the Birth of Sir Robert Peel whom in his lifetime became renowned as 2nd Baronet (1788-1850), MP for Tamworth (1830-1850), twice Prime Minister, founder of modern policing and internationally-acknowledged as one of our nation’s greatest statesmen.
The Peel Society is a registered charity and has held services on appropriate anniversaries since its foundation in 1979 following the 150th Anniversary of Peel’s Metropolitan Police Act, 1829.
