Avon and Somerset Police and Crime Commissioner Sue Mountstevens said: “Local people have been very clear what they expect of me as a PCC. They want me to be accessible, visit them in their communities, listen to their issues and ensure that the Police and other agencies are taking account of their views.
“I have travelled around my area more than the vast majority of PCCs and 95% of my expenses are travel related. I do not claim expenses for my normal commute to Police Headquarters and I fully disclose all journeys with the costs published on my website.
“Where possible I will drive myself or car share with the Constabulary or members of my team. However it would be impractical for me to cover my agenda without the services of a driver and on a number of occasions therefore I have used Constabulary cars and drivers to visit local residents.
“To carry out my role as effectively as possible as the voice of the people I need to be out and about in the local communities visiting local people at times and locations that allow them to continue their valuable work with little disruption and I am committed to continuing to do this as cost-effectively as possible.”
