Responding to Her Majesty’s Inspectorate of Constabulary’s report on how police forces respond to domestic abuse Avon and Somerset Police and Crime Commissioner Sue Mountstevens said: “I welcome HMIC’s thorough and robust inspection of how the Constabulary deals with domestic abuse reports. I am pleased that the report identifies that domestic abuse is one of my priorities for the police. While the police have improved and progress has been made I will continue to scrutinise the Constabulary’s response to HMIC’s recommendations to ensure victims do not have an inconsistent response from the police.
“I want domestic abuse survivors to have the confidence to report and to know that they will be supported. I have funded the vital work of independent domestic violence advisors in Bath and I know how instrumental they are to putting people on the path to long term safety. I will be working hard over the next year to ensure survivors have the support services they need to find the strength to begin to rebuild their lives.”
