Young people to benefit from PCC's Action Fund

Voluntary organisations and community groups who offer local people the opportunity to learn skills, take part in sporting activities and other engagement opportunities have received over £41,000 as part of Sue Mountstevens’ Community Action Fund.

Fourteen projects have been given grants including SOS Global who received £3,000 to deliver a one year youth programme to highlight the dangers of knife crime and anti-social behaviour (ASB) and YMCA Mendip to fund sporting activities and youth work in the area.

The North Somerset LGBT Forum received £1,500 for outreach work with BME and LGBT communities to support individuals experience abuse with the aim of reducing hate crime and the Friends of Ham Hill received £1,500 to install CCTV to help reduce ASB.

Police and Crime Commissioner Sue Mountstevens said: “This is the first allocation of funding from my Community Action Fund since the publication of my new Police and Crime Plan.  I’m once again delighted by the diversity of the projects that have been awarded funding and the way in which they support the new policing priorities.

“I continue to be overwhelmed by the innovative ways you are addressing local concerns in your communities and in particular the way in which you are supporting our young people.  You know far better than me what is important to your local communities and I hope this funding goes some way to helping keep residents in your area safe and feeling safe.”

The Commissioner’s Community Action Fund is awarded by the Police Community Trust.  Applications are welcome all year round and decisions are made by the Board of Trustees.

Chair of the Trust, Bea Salter said: “As the Chair of the PCT and on behalf of the Trustees I’m thrilled to report that the successful partnership between the Commissioners Community Action Fund and the Police Community Trust continues and that we are able to offer support to the extremely worthwhile projects relating to the Police Commissioners priorities.”
