The votes have been casted and the area is now waiting to find out who their first Police & Crime Commissioner will be.
Yesterday residents across Avon and Somerset went to the polls to vote for either Pete Levy, Ken Maddock, Sue Mountstevens or Dr John Savage (alphabetically) as their Police & Crime Commissioner (PCC).
The new directly PCC will oversee Avon and Somerset Police and ensure the criminal justice system is efficient and effective.
It marks the most radical change ever seen in policing and is happening in all force areas in England and Wales except London.
The PCC will replace Avon and Somerset Police Authority and has a much wider role including allocating a community safety fund. They will set local policing priorities and decide how your council tax is spent on crime and policing issues. They will also be responsible for listening to you, engaging with you and representing you.
